In case you missed it, we just announced the availability of StorSafe v11.13 with IBM via the IBM Cloud Catalog. We have two tiles in the catalog, one for StorSafe VTL on-premises, and one for the cloud. It’s been extremely helpful to have this partnership with IBM, since the ordering and billing is directly through them, and satisfies cloud credits, making it easy for customers to access and deploy as a one-stop shop for a complete hybrid cloud solution.
StorSafe v11.13 has many significant enhancements, most notably the addition of StorSight. StorSight brings in easy single-pane-of-glass management across multiple StorSafe instances, with reporting across all devices for a comprehensive view of data protection, as well as secure multi-tenancy, and simplified license management. StorSight is a sophisticated management console that today can manage those instances on-premises, in IBM Power Virtual Server, IBM Cloud, and all the major public clouds too. In the future we envision extending StorSight beyond FalconStor Software to other data protection products, like backup, replication, and cloud management.
But as significant as this is, what I want to focus on here is a separate feature that I think can be very important to customers who want to optimize their backups and save money on backend storage, but because of current backup processes, do not want to send their backup data to a virtual tape library (VTL). AIX and Linux customers have been able to choose whether to send backup data from Veeam or Spectrum Protect among others, to either VTL or NFS for some time. With this release of StorSafe, we now support not just VTL on-prem and in PowerVS but NFS as well. In fact, the same StorSafe instance can support VTL for IBM i and NFS for AIX/Linux whether on-prem, cloud, or both. So now these customers do not have to give up NAS or the tried and true backup processes that they know to work, to take advantage of StorSafe and it’s ability to optimize Power environments, whether on-premises or in the cloud, including reducing backup storage requirements substantially.
We’ve had tremendous adoption with IBM i customers since our launch through the IBM Cloud Catalog, and helped them reduce their backup storage requirements, saving significantly, while enhancing their ransomware protection leveraging IBM COS. Now with the addition of NFS support in StorSafe, AIX and Linux customers have an easy way to optimize their backups, either on-prem or in the cloud, while maintaining the same backup processes they’re familiar with. A win-win all around! Check out our Sizing Calculator to see how much you can save.
